Certain surfaces in rooms reflect sound.
Sometimes the reflections are loud and/or take a long time to arrive at your ear.
If the loudness or arrival time of the reflected sound interferes with what you are a supposed to be hearing whether it is from a PA or from another person, it isn't good.
If you put objects in the room that remedy this, than you hear more of what you are supposed to hear and less of what you aren't.

Don't limit your business to just equipment and systems. As long as the sound has left the speakers and is traveling in the air to someone's ear - acoustic treatment is part of the system.
